Creating a simple PVC pipe frame for Artist Alley table

I've attended a few artist allies since 2003 and I've been always looking for reference material on how to make a frame to hang your prints on. Having a frame hooked to your table clears up room, also if you are in bigger conventions, several people can look at your prints. Binders are nice to have, however only one person can look at it one at a time. This how to is for people who don't have a lot of time and don't want to build from scratch.

Okay on to the supplies! I went to Lowes, and bought 4, 5 feet pvc pipes (However, I only need to use 3 total). I also bought some ends to fit them together (see left picture). My goal was to clamp them to the table. I ended up at Home Depot with a friend and remembered the frame project. |
We ended up using gray boxes from the electrical section. You can fit the 1/2 pvc pipe in the circles. Next I needed some clamps, I end up buying the C clamps because they will fit under the table better if there is a lip. The cost for the boxes & clamps total to: $19.47. The pvc pipes are around $1.00-2.00. Home Depot does not have the precut of 5 feet pipes that I visited.. not sure if all store are the same.
The table I got at the artist alley is 6 feet long. My pipe is only 5 feet. To correct this problem you clamp on the back of the table. One thing to consider, some tables have a long lip that the clamps might not fit over. As you can see in the picture, the clamp wouldn't fit on top of the grey box so I had to clamp inside the box! So you have to make sure you get the clamps that I got. Do not get the plastic hand trigger clamps because they won't fit under the table right! To hang the prints, I taped them with basic scotch tape. You can use any tape *LOL*
Well this concludes my how-to! I'm sure there are better ways to do this but this is what I came up with :) Enjoy and feel free to leave a comment on what you think. Also feel free to post any links you found for making frames!
